Our Work


Programs & Services

Our work is centered around the idea that young people can change their communities through access to healthy local food, educational opportunities, and dignified housing. At every stage of our work, youth leaders learn about and implement models of localized food systems that heal and regenerate ourselves, our neighborhoods, and our planet. Taproot Collective offers expertise in a variety of areas related to urban agriculture, youth leadership, and neighborhood development.


Farm Education

  • 2017 Summer Youth Employment Program at the Lexington Ave Urban Farm, Greenhouse Cafe
  • School-based garden curriculum (Wilson High School, World of Inquiry School)


Outreach & Policy

  • Neighborhood engagement at partner farm and garden sites
  • Research and identify policy recommendations to improve Rochester’s urban agriculture economy


Community Education

  • Garden and leadership development workshops for community groups and individuals


Land Access

  • Research and identify underutilized land and property that can be suitable for community agriculture
  • Leverage resources and networks to make possible the acquisition and long-term management of vacant and underutilized urban spaces
